FOOD: ‘A Taste of Friendship’ Pop-Up Launch at the exclusive London Capital Club’s Tavern Restaurant

On Friday evening I attended the London Capital Club’s Tavern Restaurant V.I.P showcase reception of ‘A Taste of Friendship’, their new contemporary West African food Pop-Up. Being a fan of West African food myself I was intrigued to see the results of  Capital Club’s Head Chef Alfonz Meszaros and Ghanaian chef Roberta “Bobbie” Anokye who joined forces  to create an exciting modern menu inspired by dishes passed down first-hand from Bobbie’s mother and grandmother.

I was fortunate enough to go behind the scenes and see Bobbie in action .

The collaboration was the brainchild of The Capital Club’s General Manager, Simon Russell. When the Club hosted the Ghanaian Royal Family in 2015, Bobbie was introduced as guest chef. The idea of bringing back some pure West African culture to the City has been an intriguing one. “The Ghanaian menus created for the visit of HRH Osei Tutu II offered an explosion of colour and taste that left our guests requesting more. The demand inspired us to open our doors to Taste of Friendship,” Russell explained.

The food was not only beautifully presented but rich in flavour leaving you wanting more. My personal faves from the menu was the deep fried yam sticks, Palava Sauce (Rich West-African Spinach Stew with seafood and Melon Seed, cooked in Palm Oil, Served with boiled Yam) and Waayke (Delicious and nutritious coconut infused Black Eye Beans rice dish, served with either Grilled Fillet of Snapper / Organic Lamb Stew with Mixed Peppers/Chili Sauce) and YES I ate that much believe it or not!!! If my belly had room for more I would have continued eating because the food was that good!!!
