Interviews Mental Health Self Care

We can all do with some positivity right now, which is why I was so excited to interview Michaela Renee Johnson, the incredible bestselling author, psychotherapist and host of the top iTunes podcast, Be You Find Happy which encourages people to speak their truth with grace and live a courageous life of authenticity. Read on to learn more about her journey and her new motivational journal for women.

Congratulations on the launch of your new positivity journal and what a great time to launch such an inspiring product. What inspired you to create the journal and how did you get into journaling?

I’ve actually been journaling since I was in the third grade. I immediately found it to be an empowering tool to work through things that were troubling me and hopes I had. After college, I started an online journal, that became my memoir Teetering on Disaster, so it has quite literally always been a healing tool for me. I wrote Empowered to do just that, to help empower women. We often lose sight of our inner truth, we squash our voice out of fear of what others will think, and we stop living courageously. Empowered helps women do just that.

What makes this journal unique?

You are the star of your own life, working through Empowered means you walk away EMPOWERED! It includes thought-provoking prompts that encourage and empower the reader to dig deep and cultivate positive change plus

– Motivational and inspirational quotes

– Plenty of pages to write

– Beautiful design with modern illustrations

What are some of your favourite quotes?

I am not sure I could pick just one, I find so much empowerment, motivation and inspiration from quotes. In general, anything by Oprah, and Pooh Bear – which sounds hilarious, but it’s absolutely true.

Can you provide some tips on how to find happiness in spite of life’s setbacks?

I like to encourage people that happiness is a constant reset. There is always going to be something or someone threatening your happy factor. But true happiness comes from within, it comes from being able to quickly find space for appreciation and gratitude in the experience or the moment. We will never truly experience happiness without the polar – disappointment, sadness, there’s beauty in those experiences too.

You’ve travelled to more than 20 countries which is amazing. Can you tell us a bit more about that whole experience and share what some of the highlights have been?

In general, I love experiencing other cultures. It’s incredibly inspiring to see how others enjoy the world around them, and getting to see all of the nooks and crannies there are to explore. I’m with such gratitude for this beautiful planet and am constantly amazed at all that it has to offer. My favorite place so far has been Thailand, the people, the food, the landscape, everything about it was positively beautiful. Next on my list is Bali or Vietnam.

You’re an award winning author, meditation teacher & top iTunes podcast host and a boho mom!!! How do you juggle everything and what are some of your key routines?

Truly, there are some things that I make space for daily, gratitude to start the day, having a clear schedule carved out for working towards my goals, and an equal amount of time for decompressing with my family. Balance is the secret for me.
